Phase separation under ultraslow cooling: Onset of nucleation.

چکیده
We discuss the interplay between a slow continuous drift of temperature, which induces continuous phase separation, and the nonlinear diffusion term in the phi(4)-model for phase separation of a binary mixture. This leads to a bound for the stability of diffusive demixing. It is demonstrated that the same findings apply in other models, except for slight modifications of the bound. In practice stable diffusive demixing can only be achieved when special precautions are taken in experiments on real mixtures. Therefore, the recent observations on complex dynamical behavior in such systems should be considered as a new challenge for understanding generic features of phase-separating systems.

تاثیر نرخ سرمایش بر رسوب گذاری γ′در آلیاژ Ni-11.6at.%Al
The initial stages of the precipitation in a dilute Ni-Al binary alloy, Ni-11.6 at.%Al, were studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD), electron diffraction and electron microscopy (FEG-SEM and TEM) techniques. Three samples were similarly solution treated and then cooled to room temperature under different cooling rates, 170، 25 and 0.03oCs-1. The resu...

X-ray reflectivity measurements of the glass transition in thin polystyrene films supported on Si substrates were performed at slow cooling rates ranging from 0.62 to 0.01 (°)C/min. At a cooling rate of 0.14 (°)C/min, a depression in the glass transition temperature Tg was clearly observed with decreasing thickness. However, at a cooling rate of 0.62 (°)C/min, only a slight decrease in Tg for a...

The aerosol chamber AIDA was used as a moderate expansion cloud chamber with cooling rates at the onset of ice nucleation between –1.3 and –3.0 K min−1 to investigate the nucleation and growth of ice crystals in sulphuric acid, ammonium sulphate, and mineral dust aerosols at temperatures between 196 and 224 K. Supercooled sulphuric acid droplets with mean diameters of about 0.2 to 0.3 μm nuclea...

The influence of aluminum, within the range of 0.08 - 6.16 wt.%, on the microstructure and hardness of as-cast ductile cast iron has been studied. A number of irons of different composition have been made by green sand casting and gravity die casting of appropriate design to provide the experimental materials. It has been found that Al addition and higher cooling rates in permanent mould castin...
متن کاملNUMERICAL SIMULATIONS OF THE PHASE TRANSITIONS IN CLUSTERS
We have studied the phase transitions in atomic clusters by molecular dynamics simulation, assuming Lennard-Jones interatomic pair potential. Calculations are performed by DAP parallel computer. The results are analyzed by simulating their orientational distribution plots (dot-plot), and neutron diffraction patterns. It is shown that all the main features of the bulk phase transitions are e...
